Greetings From Mrs. Schulz

Suggested supplies for the first day

The 2010-2011 school year is only a few days away. We want everyone to start off on the right foot, so here are some helpful hints to get you ready for your first day of sixth grade.

First Week of School Helpful Hints

  • Start going to bed early now. 7:40 is early and getting to your bus on time will force you to get up even earlier. If you start now, August 11th will not be so painful.

  • Eat a good breakfast before you come to school. If you are tired and hungry, you won't be very happy at school.

  • Come to the Back-To-School Night Picnic. Here you will get to meet your teachers for the first time and take a tour of the school. 6:00 Picnic 7:00 Back to School Night at Tonaquint Intermediate.

  • Suggested supplies: pencil, enclosed pencil sharpener, composition notebook, 1 inch white binder with clear sleeves on the outside, so you can slide papers in for covers and name tags, package of lined paper 100-150 sheets, cleanex box for the class, colorox wipes for the desks 3-5 glue sticks.

  • Do not over buy supplies. Often students come to school with huge binders, markers, glue sticks, etc. Wait to spend the money until you know for sure what you need. We provide a lot of the supplies you might think your student needs. Waiting one day to see what the teacher requests for supplies is worth it.

  • Do come the first day with a pencil, lined paper, and a small folder for all of your take home documents.

  • Don't lose any of the first day documents. These usually include permission slips, syllabus forms, rules of the school and they all need to be signed by parents. Losing your permission slip the first day may cause you to miss out on field trips later. Keep that in mind as you put your paperwork into the black hole backpack.

I look forward to getting to know each of you and I am excited to get this year started. See you at Back to School Night! -Mrs. Schulz Language Arts and Social Studies
